I've started wearing braces ("suspenders" in America, I believe: things to hold trousers up.):
I never thought I would wear braces, it always seemed a very staid thing to do. Although why I should have anything against them for that reason, I don't know. Guess I did not see myself as a staid person. Well, not a dull and boring person.
(Isn't it shocking that these are the images that emerge from yesteryear, of totally innocent and probably absolutely brilliant people in the shadows of the memories of my youth?)
Oh, vanity, thy name is Adam!
Anyhow, without the embarrassing detail, I have become of a shape that provides no hold for trousers by themselves. Cinching in a belt is no good - damn uncomfortable to be tightly girdled and in any case slippage still occurs, and now all the more difficult to hitch up, which has become necessary every few minutes. Intolerable.
So I bought some braces and they are the best thing since sliced bread! My trousers are comfortable around the waist (or, where the waist should be) and the burden on the shoulders is slight. I am so pleased -such a joy to be free of the need for constant, unseemly hitching-up of the trousers. Joy!
