time for a painting!

I've been spending a lot of my free time recently getting back to the painting I've been doing for a few years now. I use acrylic paints and work mostly on canvas boards.

We live near the sea and among some coastal lakes, so these have been my favourite subjects for painting. In past months, this has narrowed itself down to studies of trees, seen against low afternoon sun.

I am finding it difficult to paint the trees - damn things! its so difficult to get the paint brush to make marks that add up to something expressive of a tree. And don't speak to me about the colours - so hard to get right. So, if you combine these tasks, it is hard to make it all work.

Well, that is what I am finding. It is tempting to deal with these trees in an abstract way, as I have no inclination to battle on and tussle with "reality".

In the meantime, here is my latest offering.
